It is with a grateful heart that I journey through a bittersweet experience preparing to leave the Island, and the PEI Right to Life Association at the end of June. I am sad to leave the place that has helped me grow into the woman I have become over the past seven years, and at the same time, am excited for the adventure that awaits for the rest of my life ‘across the bridge’.
When I first started volunteering in the pro-life movement in August 2015, I was fresh off hiking El Camino de Santiago in Spain, and a new Bachelor of Music Education grad. I had no idea what my training and volunteer experience would lead to, however I knew that I had to make the truth about abortion and other life issues known. When something changes your life forever, you are naturally inclined to want to share it with the world, and that’s what happened to me after attending a Crash Course with the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform and being exposed to the human rights violations that take place 300 times a day in our country.
I will forever be indebted to PEIRTL’s Past-President, Holly Pierlot, who saw something in me that I certainly couldn’t see in myself, and asked me to consider becoming the Executive Director of the PEI Right to Life Association. The whole Board welcomed me with open hearts and minds in January 2016, and graciously latched on to my vision of prayer, education, and activism for the organization. Over the past year and a half, I have witnessed that vision come to fruition in ways I could have never dreamed possible. The incredible Island pro-life community has been activated in new ways, has hosted numerous educational presentations, and has come together to support life in greater public capacities. It has been encouraging to see how pro-lifers can become more active in the movement simply through becoming more aware of how life issues impact them on a personal level.
There is still so much to be done to protect and uphold the dignity of human life at every stage, and I am excited to officially announce our new Executive Director. I confidently leave you in the fiercely capable hands of Pat Wiedemer who brings with her an exceptional level of expertise and knowledge that will benefit the pro-life movement on PEI and the rest of our country. You can read more from her in her introductory address to follow.
Thank you to all of you who have shown me an abundance of love, support and encouragement in my time with PEI Right to Life. I have never met such courageous, compassionate, and dedicated individuals as those who work tirelessly across our country to protect the most vulnerable of our kind. May God bless you abundantly in your efforts!
